Promoting Small Businesses in Our Area
We helped businesses to get more costumers by making PowerPoint presentations and videos. We convinced costumers to buy more things from local businesses.
Shop Small Day....
Helping Small Businesses....
Project Summary
Our goal is to promote and support the family and locally owned small businesses in our area. We want to be a part of American Express’s Shop Small Day Program. We hope to increase the support for the local businesses on the Shop Small Day – the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We also would like to get more people to know more about the businesses in our area so they could shop at them all year long, not just on the Shop Small Day.
We hope to learn more about businesses that our faculty, staff, students, and parents either own or are their favorite places to
shop. We would also like to find out about the various ways to learn more about the businesses – social media as well as their real location.
We will created a survey to send home with students asking their parents to give us the information about their family owned or locally visited businesses. We want to know where they love to shop so we can tell others about it. The information from the surveys was very helpful. We were then able to contact the businesses or look them up on line to learn more details about them and what products or services they offer the people in our area.
We were able to look on the Internet or contact the businesses to get any information that we didn't have already. We wanted to know their name, owner information, physical address, web site information, Facebook page, twitter account, and description of what type of business they are and how they serve the people in our area.
We were able to send an e-mail to each of the businesses with information about our project. We were also able to later send them a copy of the brochure so they could print them for display in their business to encourage their customers to visit the other businesses listed. We also made some copies to present to local businesses before the Shop Small Day.
We worked on videos that we could show our students to help support Shop Small Day and encourage them to get their family to visit the local businesses. We also published our videos to YouTube under the “eastatgardner” account for the public and our subscribers to view. We hope this helped and will help to educate more people about many of the great businesses in our area.
We created a brochure to tell our families about the local business they could visit. We used the information from our surveys, calls to the businesses, and what we found on-line. The brochures were sent home just before Thanksgiving Break so people could make plans to visit over the break, on Shop Small Day, or anytime they are out in our city. We also used our SchoolReach System to make a recorded message to remind people to be sure to support our local businesses on Shop Small Day. We set the system to call the Friday after Thanksgiving, just before the Shop Small Day on Saturday.
We also created this web site for our project. It will be a way to list and share the businesses that were given to us in our surveys. It will be another
way we can help the Entrepreneurs in our area and show our support for all they do for our community and local economy.
